Invest Aurora Staff
Bill Wiet is the Interim President & CEO of Invest Aurora. Bill was the City of Aurora’s Development Director for the past 20 years, up until last December. He has been in city planning and development for over 36 years; 25 years in Aurora and 11 in Villa Park.
Some of the biggest projects that Wiet was part of in Aurora included development along Interstate 88, the Station Boulevard master plan, development and expansion of Chicago Premium Outlets, keeping the doors open and at the now-flourishing Two Brothers Roundhouse, development of RiverEdge Park and negotiating the city's boundary agreements.
Kelsey is the Office Administrator at Invest Aurora. She manages the front desk, provides support for staff on various projects, and assists clients in Spanish and English. Kelsey holds a Bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she studied Spanish, Women’s Studies, and Non-profit Leadership. Before joining the Invest Aurora team, Kelsey served as a mentor for at-risk youth through AmeriCorps at an animal sanctuary in Southern Oregon.
Jon is our newest associate at Invest Aurora. His primary responsibilities are conducting research and collecting data, assisting with events, aiding the development specialists with custom projects, and managing our website and social media presence.
Jon received an Associate's in Pre-Law from Grand Rapids Community College. He transferred to Michigan State University and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a minor in French. He went on to receive his Master's in Applied Economics from Illinois State University. He brings to the team a wealth of experience working with small business development and non-profit organizations.
Jon was an Americorps Volunteer working as a Data Analyst at the Stevenson Center at Illinois State University before joining the team at Invest Aurora. His work consisted of analyzing and presenting data for McLean County’s Criminal Justice Coordinated Council.
Debbie Van Sickle
Debbie Van Sickle is the Retail Development Specialist at Invest Aurora. She works with national and regional retailers, the commercial real estate community, and global site selectors considering Aurora. Debbie works to grow Aurora’s retail sector by providing demographic and property data to potential investors, conducting analyses of area retail sales, and discovering opportunity gaps. She also implements marketing strategies to attract and expand retail business by attending trade shows, marketing trips, and special events to promote investment in Aurora.
Prior to joining Invest Aurora, Debbie was the Business Attraction Coordinator for the Rockford Area Economic Development Council where she managed project communications and client assistance activities related to domestic and international business attraction efforts. She was responsible for the successful management of select retention and expansion projects, and supported the coordination of designated cluster activities with regional economic development partners.
Debbie is a Northern Illinois University Graduate Student in the Master of Public Administration program with a Local Government Management focus, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban and Economic Systems and GIS. She is also a member of the International Economic Development Council, the Illinois City/County Management Association, and the International Geographic Honor Society.
Judy is one of Invest Aurora's development specialists. In her current position, Judy spearheads Invest Aurora's business retention efforts. She focuses on conducting one-on-one retention visits, organizing monthly business forums, and assisting Aurora-based businesses grow and succeed.
Judy brings a wealth of business development and market expansion knowledge with over 20 years of sales, sales management and market expansion experience with companies such as AT&T and SBC/Ameritech. Prior to joining Invest Aurora, Judy was ScaleUp Aurora's project manager. In that role she developed a strong community network of partners, sponsors and stakeholders, and conducted cohort training sessions. She provided valuable information on marketing, business strategy, business plan development, and hiring practices for small to medium sized businesses.
Judy holds a Bachelor or Arts in Political Science from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and a Masters of Business Administration, Management from American Intercontinental University in Schaumburg, Illinois.
