Crain’s Chicago Business recently named Christine J. Sobek, Ed.D. as one of “Chicago’s Notable Women in Education 2018.”
Sobek became the college’s fourth president on July 1, 2001. Before her appointment as president, she served in several administrative roles at Waubonsee, including provost from 2000-2001, executive vice president for Educational Affairs from 1997-2000, assistant vice president for Instruction from 1993-1997, assistant vice president for Student Development from 1991-1993 and dean of Student Development from 1989-1991.
In 2017, Sobek completed a term on the American Association of Community Colleges Board of Directors. She currently serves on several boards and committees to include the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning Economic Development Committee, the Valley Industrial Association Board of Directors, the Invest Aurora Board of Directors, the Rush-Copley Medical Center Board of Directors, the Marmion Academy Board of Trustees, the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference, and the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents.

Waubonsee Community College’s main campus is located in Sugar Grove, Ill. with two campuses in Aurora and one campus in Plano. The college serves the Community College District 516, which includes southern Kane County and portions of Kendall, DeKalb, LaSalle and Will counties. There are 22 municipalities, 13 public high schools and eight private high schools in the district.
