David A. Hulseberg
David Hulseberg is president/CEO of Invest Aurora. Prior to leading Invest Aurora, David was with the Village of Lombard, initially as assistant village manager/director of community development and most recently as village manager. During his tenure with the Village of Lombard, David was instrumental in expanding the Village’s hotel and restaurant industries, increasing federal and state grants, progressive strategic planning, and integrating new technology into Village government operations. Previous to the Village of Lombard, David held positions with the Village of Mount Prospect and the Village of Arlington Heights in Illinois and the Town of Millbury in Massachusetts. He also served in the United States Army and as a congressional aide in the First Congressional District of Massachusetts for the United States House of Representatives.
David earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Westfield State University in Westfield, MA and a Masters of Public Administration degree with a concentration in urban management from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. He holds credentials as a certified city manager from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification from the American Planning Association.
Moraima Ramos is the administrative coordinator for Invest Aurora. A native to Aurora and graduate from East Aurora High School, Moraima joined Invest Aurora from Old Second National Bank. She holds an Associates of Science Degree in Education from Waubonsee Community College.
Brett Michaelson is one of Invest Aurora's development specialists. In this role, Brett focuses on special projects and development initiatives.
During his undergraduate work at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, Brett founded the International Buddy Program, an orientation and cultural integration program for international exchange students. Additionally, he studied abroad in Finland. Upon undergraduate graduation, Brett joined the Peace Corps working on community economic development in Paraguay. In his tenure in Paraguay, he developed educational programs for local middle, high school and university students in English, civics and leadership. Additionally, he worked with small business owners to develop their marketing, accounting and management practices. It was during his work in Paraguay that he discovered his passion for community development and economic empowerment.
Brett holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management with a focus on International Business and a Minor in Economics from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA and a Masters in Applied Economics from Illinois State University, Normal. He is fluent in Spanish.
Cadence Peterson is Invest Aurora's development specialist. Her focus is downtown development and she administers Invest Aurora's Finish Line Grant.
Prior to Invest Aurora, Cadence interned in the planning department for the city of Roseville, MN. During her internship, Peterson conducted reviews on land use and zoning, as well as code revisions and potential impacts on residents. While completing her graduate work, Cadence aided in the in the development North Saint Paul’s Living Streets Plan and other development projects. Additionally, Cadence conducted research on policy affecting local farms and agricultural production including marketing feasibility for new crops. Before entering graduate school, Cadence worked with the Peace Corps in Costa Rica. While in the Peace Corps, she taught educational courses for young adults in English, computer literacy, communication and environmental preservation. In addition to teaching, Cadence worked with community groups, assisting in designing and implementing community development projects.
Cadence received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Spanish and French from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa and holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. She is fluent in Spanish.
Judy is one of Invest Aurora's development specialists. In her current position, Judy spearheads Invest Aurora's business retention efforts. She focuses on conducting one-on-one retention visits, organizing monthly business forums, and assisting Aurora-based businesses grow and succeed.
Judy brings a wealth of business development and market expansion knowledge with over 20 years of sales, sales management and market expansion experience with companies such as AT&T and SBC/Ameritech. Prior to joining Invest Aurora, Judy was ScaleUp Aurora's project manager. In that role she developed a strong community network of partners, sponsors and stakeholders, and conducted cohort training sessions. She provided valuable information on marketing, business strategy, business plan development, and hiring practices for small to medium sized businesses.
Judy holds a Bachelor or Arts in Political Science from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and a Masters of Business Administration, Management from American Intercontinental University in Schaumburg, Illinois.
Debbie Van Sickle
Debbie Van Sickle is the Retail Development Specialist at Invest Aurora. She works with national and regional retailers, the commercial real estate community, and global site selectors considering Aurora. Debbie works to grow Aurora’s retail sector by providing demographic and property data to potential investors, conducting analyses of area retail sales, and discovering opportunity gaps. She also implements marketing strategies to attract and expand retail business by attending trade shows, marketing trips, and special events to promote investment in Aurora.
Prior to joining Invest Aurora, Debbie was the Business Attraction Coordinator for the Rockford Area Economic Development Council where she managed project communications and client assistance activities related to domestic and international business attraction efforts. She was responsible for the successful management of select retention and expansion projects, and supported the coordination of designated cluster activities with regional economic development partners.
Debbie is a Northern Illinois University Graduate Student in the Master of Public Administration program with a Local Government Management focus, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban and Economic Systems and GIS. She is also a member of the International Economic Development Council, the Illinois City/County Management Association, and the International Geographic Honor Society.
