Businesses looking to open or relocate need to seriously consider Aurora’s Route 59 corridor. This regionally significant location has been renewed and revitalized as a prime destination to live, work and play. Recent information received from Ward 10 Alderwoman Shweta Baid’s office has revealed interesting insight as to the exciting business possibilities that exist along this promising Aurora corridor.
The Future of Route 59
To say that the Route 59 corridor has come a long way in recent years is an understatement! Since 2012, the retail market has seen a tremendous shift toward online shopping. As such, there has been renewed focus on creating a revitalized and enhanced commercial corridor along Route 59 in order to maximize retailers’ investments.
The City of Aurora continues to encourage development in this district that strengthens the community and is sustainable into the future. For example, residential projects that are planned for the upcoming years include developments for rental units, for-sale townhomes and senior housing on the former Cedarwood property. Also, future commercial plans include mixed-use developments at the Brach Brody property and continued focus on current retail locations including Fox Valley Mall and Pacifica Square. Additionally, increased investment in experiential retail concepts will continue to attract more visitors to existing shopping areas while creating memorable shopping experiences.
Advantages to Businesses
Aurora is committed to continually reinvesting in the area along Route 59 in order to attract exciting new businesses. As Alderwoman Baid suggests, “this is seen by many to be the front door for Aurora (especially from the east), and therefore, the expectations are high. Each new development that comes in is being pushed to raise the bar in terms of use, architecture, quality, and amenities”. A new business owner can feel confident that their business will be supported by the city, as Aurora is continually reimagining strategies to create an enhanced business corridor and increase appeal to visitors.
According to Alderwoman Baid’s office, “the Route 59 corridor is considered to be the second most significant retail corridor in the State of Illinois, second only to the Magnificent Mile in Chicago, in terms of commercial square feet and retail sales. The investment seen throughout this corridor has already been millions of dollars. We are very fortunate to have property owners and developers that believe in the corridor and are helping to reimagine the possibilities”.
